Mehreen:Mehreen Poonja was born in Pakistan and moved to Canada at the age of 5. Following completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Victoria, she completed her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Passionate about breaking down systemic barriers to improve quality of life of the disenfranchised, she has worked with survivors of abuse, immigrants, sex trade workers and youth at risk. She is active on numerous advocacy, research, training, public education and grassroots initiatives aimed at improving the life circumstances of persons in greatest need. |
Umbereen:Umbereen Inayet has an Undergraduate degree in Women's Studies and Anthropology from the University of Western Ontario and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Umbereen's theatre experience includes producing and acting in the world renown play, "The Vagina Monologues." She is passionate about advocacy, anti-oppression, feminisim and community building as well as issues of abuse, health, settlement and trauma. Umbereen has a key interest in the arts, media, theatre, event production and works to bridge these interests in her social work endeavours. |
